San Miguel

For a quieter slice of Ibizan life, the rugged northern coast offers quiet resorts and traditional mountain towns. Among them is San Miguel, a striking hillside town home to one of the oldest and most beautiful churches on the island.

Days slip by all too quickly here. You can fill your time flitting between sunny villages, beautiful beaches and the comforts of your San Miguel villa; gorging yourself on fresh seafood in between. But if you like things more active there’s everything you need to keep you on your toes.

Test your mettle on hiking trails, clamber down to deserted beaches and dive, paddle and jet ski your way around dazzling blue seas. Whatever’s your preference, a holiday in San Miguel is anything but boring!

Whether you like wide sandy bays or tiny, pebbled coves, you’ll find a beach to suit you near your San Miguel holiday home. What they do have in common is that they’re laid-back, friendly and a world away from the brash party beaches of the south coast.

There’s low-key family fun to be had at Puerto de San Miguel, thanks to a sweep of white sand and gently shelving waters, ideal for little ones. Follow the hilly hiking trail and you’ll find a second, hidden beach, complete with a tiny cafe and stone watchtower.

Fancy joining a hippy drumming circle? Benirrás is not only known for its fabulous snorkeling and clear turquoise seas. It also throws a mean party every Sunday of the summer season, when crowds descend to band their drums as the sun goes down.

Don’t spend your entire holiday relaxing at your villa rental. Excellent restaurants, small boutiques and a historic fortress church make thriving San Miguel an excellent starting point for Ibizan explorations. If you’re here for the Thursday evening artisan market and folk music night even better!

Spending time by the beach is the main reason you’re here, and there are dozens of dazzling specimens to sample. Want to do more than soak up the views? Choose your favourite high-octane water sport or keep things sophisticated with a yacht trip around the coastline at sunset.

But dazzling coves, sun-soaked sands and water sports aren’t all that’s on offer. Try a coastal hike and you’ll find former smugglers’ caves, ancient towers and a whole new perspective on the island’s beauty.

San Miguel’s evening artisan market is a shopping highlight. Come to browse jewellery, clothing and art from across the island and stay for the live music and folk dancing.

For postcards, souvenirs and basics for your holiday home there are supermarkets and souvenir shops in town and by the beach. Luxury fashion, eclectic boutiques and gourmet food stores are available in the always stylish Ibiza Town.

There’s no need to stray far from your San Miguel rental villa to find a tasty meal. Whether you’re looking for traditional Ibizan, pizza or even Thai, the atmosphere will be as memorable as the food. In summer, diners spill out onto pavement terraces, and frequent live music makes for a vibe that’s lively, friendly and fun.

For the freshest fish and seafood get down to Puerto de San Miguel or Benirrás where your crustaceans come with the finest of sea views. Ibizan lobster and crayfish are particularly good, as are the traditional, flavoursome fish stews.

Head deep into the countryside to enjoy gastronomic paradise at bohemian Santa Gertrudis. This little town punches well above its weight when it comes to fabulous restaurants. And when you’re done filling your belly there are craft shops and art galleries to explore.

A relaxed vibe, friendly locals and uncrowded beaches make San Miguel the ideal escape. The countryside is made for wholesome romps, while the coastline brings blissful beaches, from fun-filled and family-friendly to quiet, secluded gems. Under the water there’s marvelous marine life to be discovered - just put on a mask and snorkel!

Got older kids in tow? Race though the hills on a buggy or quad bike and you’ll have them buzzing for days. Meanwhile, the bright lights and glamorous sights of Ibiza Town and San Antonio will entertain the most tempestuous of teens.

If you prefer your holidays on the lazy side, there’s no shame in spending your time at your family-friendly villa. After all, you’ll likely have a private pool, large gardens and plenty of space for the kids to roam.
