Formentor

A narrow peninsula on Mallorca’s northern tip, Cap de Formentor is a wild and wonderful landscape scattered with pine trees, lined with craggy cliffs and crisscrossed with the best hiking and biking trails in the country.

Our apartments and villas in Formentor give access to blissful beaches, medieval towns and crumbling Roman ruins that are testament to this island’s storied past. If you’re after authenticity, you’ll find it here. It’s an area rich in tradition, where tourist development hasn’t overwhelmed the rich Catalan culture.

Whether you’re looking for a laid-back beach holiday, active walking break or a deep dive into history, Formentor gives you all that and then some!

Beaches here are among the best of the island, and the most diverse too. White sand beaches with bags of facilities are commonplace. But this is also walking territory and there are hidden coves to be discovered, too.

A narrow strip of white sand squeezed between dazzling seas and pine forest, Formentor’s beach delivers on all fronts. Not only is it beautiful, it also has Blue Flag waters, water sports and an interesting history. Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill and F Scott Fitzgerald have all visited the Hotel Formentor, which still stands overlooking the beach.

It’s a sweaty hike to reach Cala Figuera, but there’s a big payoff - you’ll probably have this crystal-clear cove to yourself. There are no facilities so bring a picnic. Just watch out for the goats!

This is prime hiking territory, so there are no excuses not to leave your holiday home and get out into nature. Trails take you along cliffsides and up mountains, with scenery as dramatic as it comes. Hike to one of the region’s many fortified towers and you’ll learn all about the pirates who used to frequent these waters!

If you’d rather drive, follow the winding road to the tip of the peninsula, where you’ll find wild, rocky surroundings crowned by a historic lighthouse, 384 metres above sea level! If you keep your eyes peeled, you might spot falcons and seabirds.

Once you’ve filled your day with wholesome, outdoorsy fun, Formentor’s beach is the perfect place to relax. Preferably with a cool drink and a plate of delicious Mallorcan tapas!

Whether you want to look at local craft ware or pick up some foodie treats, you’ll find what you need near your Formentor villa rental. The island has a strong artistic culture, with emphasis on leather goods, colourful textiles and handmade ceramics.

There are plenty of souvenir shops but to join the locals head to one of the regular markets. Try Alcudia and Pollensa for browsing jewellery, clothes and fresh food in the shadow of beautiful medieval architecture.

If it’s high end designer clothing or high-street names you’re after, make your way down to Palma, where you’ll find fancy boutiques, minimalist interior stores and bohemian vintage gear.

Sunny climes and fertile soil make for top quality ingredients. And in Formentor, flavourful citrus fruit, olive oil, almonds, mushrooms and locally reared pork make a welcome addition to your table. With so much goodness available it’s easy to concoct a feast at your holiday villa, but when you’re ready to go out a world of deliciousness awaits!

Restaurants make excellent use of fresh seafood with razor fish, sea bass baked in salt and grilled Sóller red prawns all popular local choices. There’s plenty of meat on the menu, too. Sobrassada is a spreadable cured sausage that’s usually served spread on crusty bread.

If it’s fine dining you’re after you’ll find several likely candidates in Alcudia, where you can dress up and dine in serious style.

Home to stunning beaches, kid-friendly food and a raft of outdoor activities to suit all ages, Formentor’s got family holidays covered. And once you’ve walked through the door of your family-friendly Formentor villa you’ll know that you’ve made the right choice!

Whether you’ve gone for a traditional farmhouse or a gleaming modern villa, you’ll have perks such as swimming pools, large gardens and al fresco dining areas with stunning mountain or sea views. You might be so comfortable that you don’t want to leave!

If you do make the effort you’ll be greeted with hidden beaches, sprawling water parks and hillside towns and villages straight out of a fairytale. This is a holiday that’s equally enchanting for kids and adults!
