Casa de Campo

Deep in the countryside but within easy reach of the sea, Casa de Campo makes for a peaceful escape from the holiday crowds. On your doorstep are lush hills, endless walks and a chance to enjoy a genuine slice of Catalonia in a quiet rural community.

Want to get out and explore? There are golden beaches galore, and a multitude of water sports to get stuck into. History and culture more your speed? The charms of medieval Begur are just a short drive away. Strike out even further and you’ve got the blockbusting town of Girona, a treasure trove of museums, galleries and historic churches.

If it’s the quiet life you’re after, a holiday in Casa de Campo is all about relaxation. You’ll have plenty of space to roam in and around your villa, with bucolic views over the hills and across to the sea.

You’ll have endless golden sands to choose from just a short drive from your Casa de Campo holiday home, whether you’re looking to splash about in clear, calm water or take to the waves on a surfboard.

Beautiful Tamariu Beach is set in a perfect horseshoe bay. Blessed with honey-coloured sand and clear waters, it’s ideal for families keen on a laid-back beach scene. Llafranc Beach is a bright turquoise cove backed by a tangle of whitewashed streets and pine-clad hills. No surprise that it was once the haunt of movie stars and artists, including Salvador Dali!

A small pebble beach tucked between the two, Cala Pedrosa is only accessible by boat or sweaty hike, which keeps the crowds away. It’s also known for its excellent marine life, so be sure to bring a snorkel!

You’ll spend considerable time kicking back at your villa rental but there’s plenty going on to entice you out! Get your legs moving with some gentle countryside strolls or ramp up the adrenalin with a bike ride around the hills and down to the sea.

This area is known for its history and culture, and the best place to start is Begur, a fortified town built across three hills. Wander cobbled streets and check out the Moorish and Spanish architecture, before making your way to its crowning glory - a crumbling hilltop castle.

Beach days are always a good idea, and you can combine them with all kinds of water sports, from snorkelling to diving to windsurfing. If you’d rather take things easier, hire a boat and a skipper and head on down the coastline. Who knows? You might get a beach all to yourself.

Your Casa de Campo holiday home gives easy access to Begur’s clothing boutiques, gourmet food shops and souvenir stores, as well as the thriving weekly market.

If you're looking for a special souvenir, this area is big on ceramics. The village of La Bisbal d'Empordà, a little further inland, is the place to find them. One of the leading pottery centres in Catalonia, it has a pottery museum, workshop visits and a large store where you can buy local wares.

If you’d rather browse high street names in air-conditioned comfort, try Parco d’Aro. For designer clothes and vintage shopping, head on up to Girona.

The local area has everything you need to whip up a gourmet feast in the comfort of your rental home! Begur has supermarkets, artisan food shops and a weekly market where you can stock up on fresh goodies from local farms.

If you’d rather dine out, head down to the coast, where you’ll find everything from simple beachfront cafes to chic restaurants, where you can wash down your dinner with fine wine. What’s on the menu? Grilled wild lobster, gilt-head sea bream and black rice with squid are some of the highlights!

For a special night out, Girona has more than its fair share of fine dining restaurants, including El Celler de Can Roca, which has an impressive three Michelin stars.

It’s no trouble at all entertaining the kids if you’ve rented a family-friendly villa in Casa de Campo. You’ll have a private pool, large gardens and an outdoor eating or BBQ area. Not to mention stunning views across the countryside or out to sea.

If you can tear yourself away, get down to the local beaches, most of which have soft sand and gently shelving sea. Not to mention cafes serving ice cream and other kid-friendly treats!

For a family excursion in the fresh country air, try a bike ride or hike along the Camino de Ronda, a pretty coastal path. Or explore the dunes and wetlands of the Natural Park of Montgrí, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter.
