Alcudia

Alcudia is a town with a split personality that’s perfect for both beach bums and history buffs. First off, there’s the beach - a glorious stretch of golden sand, backed by hotels and restaurants and leading to a glamorous marina at one end and a nature reserve at the other.

Then, a few minutes’ drive inland, there’s the atmospheric Old Town, whose storied 14th century walls hide a mass of cobbled streets, historic mansions and sunny town squares. As an added bonus, you’ll find the magical remains of Pollentia, once a powerful Roman town.

Wherever you’re based, this is an area that’s equally thriving at night as in the daytime. In the Old Town, diners spill out onto the pavement to eat and drink in maximum medieval atmosphere. While at the beach, you can feast on tapas and fresh fish with a glorious view of the Med.

Alcudia’s main beach is a stunner. It’s one of the longest on the island and is blessed with soft golden sand and warm shallow waters that are perfect for little ones, as well as a plethora of water sports to keep you active on the ocean.

Your Alcudia villa puts you within easy reach of lots of other stunning sands, too. This part of the Mallorcan coastline has some of the best beaches in the country, with white sand and shallow water a common occurrence.

For proper unspoilt beach bliss, make your way down the coast to Playa Coll Baix. It’s a long sweaty hike through pine forest to get there, but the gorgeous views and peaceful vibe are well worth it. If hiking isn’t your thing, you can always hire a boat to take you there!

You’ll find a world of things to do within easy reach of your Alcudia holiday rental. Start with exploring the beautiful old city that is the Old Town. There are museums, churches and historic homes to visit, but it’s just as fun to wander the cobbled streets, soaking up the atmosphere.

To up your history fix even further, make for the atmospheric Pollentia ruins on the outskirts of town, where you can visit an ancient amphitheatre. Or head out a little further to the Arab Baths in Palma, one of the few remains from centuries of Moorish rule.

Rather keep things active? The countryside around Alcudia is lush, beautiful and full of fabulous trails ripe for walking, biking and even horse riding.

There’s a wide choice of shops near our Alcudia rental properties so it’s easy to indulge in some retail therapy. Looking for souvenirs or gourmet gifts to take home? You’ll find plenty of interest around the Old Town. If you’re here on Tuesday or Sunday, the market offers all kinds of quirky trinkets, from jewellery to leather goods.

High street stores and designer gear more your style? There’s a small shopping mall just down the coast that’ll sort you out.

Given its oceanside location it’s no surprise that Alcudia loves its seafood. Sample the goods at an atmospheric bistro in the Old Town, or at a beachside tavern with a glorious sea view. Whatever you choose is bound to be delicious, but scorpion fish, John Dory and red mullet are particularly renowned.

Do fruits of the sea leave you cold? No worries. Sobrassada – a cured pork sausage – is a Mallorcan favourite, which often appears on tapas plates alongside Mallorcan olives and local cheese.

If self-catering back at your holiday villa is more your speed, stock up on cheese, olive oil, almonds and cured meats at the town’s delis and the twice-weekly market. You’ll find plenty of tempting puddings to take home too. Try bunyols, Mallorca’s answer to the donut.

Our family-friendly villas in Alcudia are packed with home comforts and even more. If you can’t quite make it to the beach, your private swimming pool will keep the kids more than happy. While a large garden offers space for them to run around.

Once you leave your island sanctuary, you’ll find a host of kid-friendly entertainment. Get down to the ocean to try out water sports from snorkelling to stand up paddle boarding. Or take things easy with a sailing trip down the coast.

For water-based fun of the manufactured variety, head to Hidropark where you can have your fill of water slides and wave pools.
