Vale do Lobo

The resort of Vale do Lobo offers luxurious seaside living like nowhere else. Holidaymakers flock to this glamorous corner of Portugal for two key reasons: the coastline and the world-class golf. Whether you’re a beach bum or ardent golfer, Vale do Lobo strikes gold every time.

Life here is lived firmly in the slow lane. Golden sands, verdant valleys and, of course, the brilliant blue Atlantic Ocean provide an idyllic backdrop to lazy days basking on the beach or playing in the pool of your holiday home.

You’ll let your hair down, of course. But the eye-catching villas in Vale do Lobo also enjoy easy access to the rest of the Algarve. From water sports to medieval castles, it’s an unbeatable base for your Mediterranean holiday.

Villa holidays in Vale do Lobo revolve around the seafront and the sandy beaches are second to none. Praia de Vale do Lobo is your local and, gosh, what a treat it is. There are sun beds to rent, red cliffs to roam and over a kilometre of squeaky-clean sands to stretch out on.

Head west for the untouched shores of Praia do Loulé Velho and Praia da Lagoa – the latter complete with its very own hidden lagoon! From here the coast gets progressively buzzier. Praia de Quarteira, close to Vilamoura, benefits from a palm-fringed promenade packed with cafes.

Meanwhile, peaceful beaches like Praia do Garrão await to the east. Home to a sprinkling of beach bars and unbridled natural beauty, your only job is to sit back and enjoy.

Year-round sunshine and epic coastal scenery have catapulted the Algarve into one of the world’s best destinations for golf. Luxury golfing getaways are Vale do Lobo’s bread and butter, and there are two 18-hole championship courses on the doorstep of your rental villa.

Practice a different kind of swing at the superb Tennis Academy. Or, roam the gorgeous countryside of the ‘Golden Triangle’ by horseback. Pinetrees Riding Centre has friendly Portuguese horses (Lusitanos, to be precise) ready take you on a trot through the wildflowers of Ria Formosa Nature Reserve.

If history captures your heart, pay a visit to the castle-topped town of Loulé. Dating from the 13th century, it’s possible to step inside the castle’s walls and browse the archaeological museum within. Don’t miss the panoramic views from the top.

Vale do Lobo’s shops are as chic as the rest of the resort. Quinta Shopping, an al fresco mall 10 minutes from Vale do Lobo, is small in size but big on style. Go for the designer boutiques, stay for the pretty square and excellent people-watching.

On Saturday mornings, the cobbled streets of Loulé transform into a shopping haven. A kaleidoscopic array of fruits, baked treats, handmade preserves and freshly-plucked nuts fill the stalls of the Arabic-inspired municipal market. Get there early for the best pick of produce!

Cheap and cheerful wares can be found at Quarteira’s weekly market. Just 15 minutes from Vale do Lobo’s villa rentals, this is a great place to purchase hand-carved cork souvenirs – a Portuguese speciality.

Although Vale do Lobo wears its Portuguese identity with pride, the resort’s buzzy undercurrent has contributed to a dining scene that fuses classic fare with modern flourish. Seafood is found at the centre of specials boards. From pillow-soft prawns to swordfish steaks, these prime specimens need nothing more than a spritz of lemon before being grilled to perfection.

Many of Vale do Lobo’s restaurants are in The Praça, a beachfront hub dotted with snazzy eateries spanning Italian, Asian and Mexican cuisine. After dark, sultry vibes abound as the complex’s trendy cocktail bars and dance floors spring into action.

Further along the coast on Garrão and Ancão beaches, restaurants perch right on the sands. Make sure to book your evening meal in advance because the sunsets here are unbeatable.

Start planning your perfect Portuguese holiday with our family-friendly villas in Vale do Lobo. There’s a huge selection, ranging from two bedroom holiday apartments to grand villas overlooking the ocean. Splashes galore are guaranteed in sparkling swimming pools, metres from your back door.

Larger properties are ideal if you’ve got the whole gang in tow. Tennis courts? Sure. Tropical gardens? Why not. Home cinemas and games rooms? Of course! Apartments, meanwhile offer a more budget-friendly option with no compromise on comfort.

When you’re not nipping to the beach, make the most of the area’s family activities. Aquashow Water Park is full of thrills and spills, nature-lovers can get nose-to-nose with wild animals at Krazy World, while Zoomarine’s dolphin shows are pure family magic.
