Vale do Lobo beaches

The region is best known for its golf courses but, as with most of the Algarve coast, the area of Vale do Lobo boasts great stretches of beachfront which are perfect for holidaymakers of all kinds.

The Vale do Lobo weather is fairly consistent, remaining warm and sunny throughout the year. In the summer, temperatures can near 30 degrees celsius, meaning the summer time is much more reliable than more northern European countries.

If you’re thinking about a villa holiday in Vale do Lobo, find out more about the beaches you could be enjoying that sprawl along the coast before you book.

Praia Vale do Lobo
Just a short walk from the main Vale do Lobo resort is the praia Vale do Lobo. This beach is situated right at the end of the main road, with a free shuttle bus running throughout the day.

This sandy stretch of beach sits below the red cliffs and the Royal golf course on one side and the soft hills of the Ocean golf course on the other. The beach lies at the end of the main street, or Praça, where most of the restaurants and shop in the area can be found.

Trafal beach
Trafal beach lies further up the coast to the west of Vale do Lobo beach and is another beautiful stretch of sand and ocean. This beach is a little more secluded than that of Vale do Lobo, making it an ideal location for those looking to get off the beaten track.

After making your way along the dusty path to the beach, you will be greeted by serene quiet punctured only by the waves. Grab something to eat at the beachside restaurant or chill on the beach all day under the stunning blue sky. Much like most of the beaches in the area, the sea welcomes families with children of all ages and is sure to provide hours of fun.

Praia da Quarteira
Further down the coast and around a 15 minute drive from the Vale do Lobo resort, Praia da Quarteira is beautifully landscaped and dotted with palms along the promenade. The mile-long white sand beach is dotted with groynes and is perfect for a long walk along the seafront or just for lounging under the sun.

The promenade which runs behind the beach is filled with restaurants and shops to explore throughout the day. The beach is fully accessible and its blue flag means that lifeguards are on duty through the summer months for added peace of mind for families.

With blue skies overhead almost all year-round and miles of sandy shores in both directions, a beach holiday to a Vale do Lobo villa is the perfect getaway for families and couples of all ages.

Aquashow Park

What summer holiday is complete without a visit to the waterpark? Aquashow Park is filled with rollercoasters, water slides and play parks for children of any age. Vale do Lobo Attractions

Situated on Portugal’s southern coast, the Vale do Lobo resort is surrounded by gorgeous beaches, quality restaurants and a diverse range of activities for all kinds of travellers. Vale do Lobo is the first five-star hotel in the Algarve and it has maintained its reputation throughout its 50-year history.

Benefitting from the Algarve’s climate and surrounded by pine forests and sandy beaches, Vale do Lobo is an idyllic area which is perfect for those looking to recharge their batteries. However, the resort is best known for its 18-hole golf courses. With two world-class courses on the resort’s doorstep, Vale do Lobo is much more than just sun, sea and sand.

In addition to the Royal and Ocean golf courses, which hosted the Portuguese Open in both 2002 and 2003, there is a huge range of exciting activities to fill your holiday with. Our collection of villas in Vale do Lobo are all perfectly situated to access the golf courses, as well as all the other activity options to enjoy in this stunning part of the Algarve.

Vale do Lobo Ocean Course

The original golf course built on the site of the Algarve’s first five-star resort, the Vale do Lobo Ocean Course was created by British pro Sir Henry Cotton.

From the gently rolling hills of this course, it’s clear to see why this resort secured the Algarve’s future as a luxury destination. Several of the front nine holes enjoy a sea view and the surrounding pine forests while most of the back nine feature stunning views of the Atlantic. The course reaches almost to the seashore so golfers can witness an unrivalled beauty as they play a course which is known for fostering calculated play from its golfers.

Vale do Lobo Royal Golf Course

The second course to be built on the resort, the Vale do Lobo Royal Course differs from the Ocean course in that its seaside play sits on the top of the cliffs. This means more captivating views of the sea and some exciting, distinctive holes.

The 16th hole features a clifftop carryover and requires players to travel across the ravine. This is one of the most photographed golf sites in Europe so is essentially a must-see for any golf enthusiasts heading to the Algarve.

Pinheiros Altos Golf Course

Beyond the resort itself, the region’s love of golf is evident, especially in the 27-hole resort of Pinheiros Altos. This trio of nine-hole courses are inspired by the surrounding local forests, with each named after the different trees of Portugal - Olive, Pine and Cork.

While there are no sea views from this course, each of the three loops is filled with lush greens and local greenery, all expertly designed by renowned golf architect Ronald Fream.

Vale do Lobo Tennis Academy

Those interested in Vale do Lobo holidays not centred around golf will be pleased to know that the region is also host to a number of activities to fill your stay with, including the Vale do Lobo Tennis Academy. For tennis loving holiday makers, Vale do Lobo`s Tennis Academy is the perfect place with 14 courts and tennis for all levels from beginners right up to championship tournaments and facilities that include a gym, swimming pool and restaurants.

The Academy runs programmes all year round for players of all experience levels - from individual coaching to tournaments and specific activities for holidaymakers. Enjoy the clear blue skies of the Mediterranean on the courts or the dazzling blues of the sea from the rooftop terrace.

Pinetrees Riding Centre

An exciting way to experience the Algarve, the Pinetrees Riding Centre located in the Golden Triangle provides great family fun for anybody holidaying in the Algarve. From classical tuition for beginners to advanced riding training on Portuguese Lusitanos - traditional Iberian horses.

The centre is accredited by the Association of British Riding Schools and has been providing families with riding experiences for decades. For those interested in a little more adventure, the school also offers the chance to ride out into the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, running through the pine woods and beside the salt flats.

Choosing any of our villas in Vale do Lobo guarantees an exciting holiday filled with unforgettable experiences, no matter how old our visitors are or what they like to do on their perfect holiday.

Vale do Lobo Nightlife

When it comes to Vale do Lobo, Portugal provides a nightlife scene with everything any holiday maker could need. Whether you are travelling as a family, a couple or a group, there is something for everybody to enjoy once the sun goes down.

Cuisines range from Asian and French to Italian and Portuguese in a variety of premium quality restaurants to suit all tastes and ensure you never have to eat in the same place twice (unless you want to!).

Over half the restaurants in the area can be found at the Praça. This area hosts bars, clubs and restaurants stretching along to the seafront. Here, a number of establishments look out onto the Atlantic, creating an enchanting backdrop whether you are eating, drinking or dancing.

Sandbanks

As a seaside resort, fish is a popular specialty and Sandbanks stands out above the rest. This restaurant sits on the edge of the beach and features an open terrace which is the perfect place to spend a summer evening. The menu features a range of seafood mixed with traditional dishes for a genuine Portuguese experience.

Monty’s

For a restaurant that has a bit of everything, Monty’s is the perfect place. This restaurant offers a range of international and traditional dishes and the terrace is a prime location to watch the local performances which take place in the Praça.

Monty’s takes entertainment seriously, so you can enjoy cocktails and top-class food in the heart of the village while partying with their resident DJs or taking part in their karaoke nights.

Gecko

For those looking to stay out later, there are also several bars and clubs in the Vale do Lobo area. The most popular nightclub is Gecko, which is a favourite with tourists and residents alike. The club is right on the seafront and partiers can enjoy the view from inside or take in the fresh Mediterranean air as you dance through the night.

When the sun sets on the Vale do Lobo resort, there are myriad things to do to make your holiday unforgettable. In the summer months, the Praça is filled with live music and performances and there are restaurants, clubs and bars for all tastes to explore.

Vale do Lobo Shopping

During your stay in Vale do Lobo, the Praça has everything you will need, including a supermarket and some small shops for those who like to dine in. However, for those interested in more opportunities to spend, there are a couple of locations of note to entice any shopaholics heading to the Algarve.

Calcadao de Quarteira

On the edge of the sun-blanched Praia da Quarteira, the Calcadao de Quarteira is the promenade of shops and restaurants that runs along it. There are a number of quaint shops facing onto the beach, interspersed with restaurants and cafes to stop for a drink in the sun.

Quarteira is a little further up the west coast than Vale do Lobo but offers more stunning Atlantic views and the opportunity to spend the day exploring the Calcadao along the pedestrianised promenade.

Quarteira Gypsy Market

A quaint collection of stalls in Quarteira further back from the sea shore than the Calcadao, the Gypsy Market sets up shop every Wednesday. The stalls sell all manner of objects from clothes to food to cork souvenirs.

The cork souvenirs are a must in Portugal, where cork trees naturally grow, making the market an ideal stop for any visitors looking for something to commemorate their holiday or to show loved ones back home that they were thought of.
The market runs all day every Wednesday and is around a 10 minute drive from the main Vale do Lobo resort.

Quinta Shopping

Holiday-makers who cannot rest until they have shopped may find the Quinta shopping district a welcome sight while spending their holiday in Vale do Lobo. The boutique mall features restaurants and cafes with outdoor seating for a drink or some food in the sun, combined with a range of designer stores.

Spending every day on the beach is not the ideal holiday for every traveller, and for those who like to spend their time wandering the shops and taking in the bustle of the local area, Quinta shopping mall will likely hit the spot.

Vale do Lobo is a site of great luxury so it is only fitting that its shopping opportunities reflect that. Choose from our selection of villas in the resort and plan your shopping excursions for your perfect Portuguese holiday today.

Aiguablava Summary

Aiguablava is for many people the Costa Brava`s most perfect spot, where the cliffs reach down into a turquoise bay backed by a beach of gently shelving sand. It was here in 1908 that Ferran Agullo first coined the term Costa Brava. Although Aiguablava (its name means `blue water` in Catalan) has been `discovered` and villas are creeping up the hillsides, this remains a good place to experience the Costa Brava as it was before mass tourism took over in the more southern resorts.

Aiguablava villas

Haven On Earth have an excellent selection of villas with private pools in Aiguablava, as well as apartments in smart developments such as Cap Rubi and Los Oliveres. The villas we have in Aiguablava range from 2 bedrooms to 6 bedrooms. We have a selection of smart, modern villas in this area, offering a contemporary feel to your holiday and for those looking for more of a traditional experience we have older villas which do tend to be better value for those who don’t mind a rustic feel.

Aiguablava beaches

Platja Fonda: Platja Fonda can be reached via the coastal footpath from Fornells. The beach is approximately 130m long, has coarse, dark sand and is quite low down in comparison to the path, meaning that it is reached by a long set of steps. The beach remains unspoilt and wild thanks to its access.

Platja de Fornells: Fornells is well known for its small harbour and can be easily reached from >Begur by road and also via the coastal path that runs between >Aiguablava and Fornells. Fornells enjoys favourable weather conditions making it a pleasant holiday location. The original beauty and charm of Fornells has not been lost despite it becoming more residencial. Fornells is also a great place for fishing. At each side of Fornells there are two small coves: `Ses Orats` and `Can Malaret`.

"Three miles to the north, the triple whammy of Aiguablava, Fornells and Platja Fonda will spark a best-beach debate..." Extract from `The Perfect Spanish Costa` by Chris Haslam from The Times January 13, 2008

Platja d`Aiguablava: >Aiguablava is for many people the Costa Brava`s most perfect spot, where the cliffs reach down into a turquoise bay backed by a beach of gently shelving sand. The beach offers fine, light-coloured sand and beautiful shallow waters – a perfect setting for any holiday maker. The beach of >Aiguablava is easily reached by road with good parking facilities. The beach is one of the most popular beaches not only in >Begur, but the whole of Catalonia. Over the years many artists and writers have depicted this wonderful location in their works.

"Aiguablava: The setting here — a sunset-pink rocky inlet where little boats ride on Smartie-coloured buoys against an amphitheatre of green hills — is Mediterranean perfection." Extract from `The wilder side of the Costa Brava` by David Wickers from The Times, June 26, 2005

Aiguablava history

Aiguablava seems immune to change; probably why it is still among our preferred destinations on the Costa Brava. As we approach, we pass through lush vegetation and catch glimpses here and there of resplendent, well-hidden private houses dotting the hills. At times the ascent from the waterfront is so steep that construction is virtually impossible; and yet the government-sponsored Parador de Aiguablava crowns one of the highest rocky crags. The hotel, modern and spare in style and well over 30 years old, takes a back seat to the vertiginous views. The hotel pool, at the edge of the precipice, is perfectly situated. In the evening, lights sparkle from the houses in the surrounding hills, and we briefly contemplate staying put but we can`t resist exploring nearby villages and their own coves: Tamari, Aigua Xelida, Sa Tuna, Aiguafreda, and Llafranc, where the simple but immaculate little Hotel Llafranc sits along the tree-shaded seaside promenade.

When we returned to the Costa Brava in October, we checked into Mas de Torrent, a few miles inland from Aiguablava. The hotel was at the vanguard of a wave of small deluxe hotels sprouting in Spain. An 18th-century masia (Catalonian manor house) in the countryside, exquisitely refurbished; the hotel is ideally situated to take advantage of both the coast and the rural interior. While here we direct our attention inward, visiting beautifully preserved medieval towns like Peratallada, with cobbled streets, covered passageways and an 11th-century castle (now a deluxe hotel with eight guest rooms), and Pals, former fief of feudal lords that was rediscovered by city folk who have splendidly restored the houses as weekend retreats. We are especially charmed by the isolated town of Monells and its singular Plaza Mayor, from which multiarched porticoed streets, tunnel-like passageways and alleyways emerge at odd angles.

Property to wish list.
