Tamariu is situated in a small secluded bay between the towns of Begur and Palafrugel. Tamariu has a beautiful sandy bay facing south with shelter form the wind. Tamariu beach and village is sitauted 3km south of the popular Aiguablava beach and under 5km from the bustling resort of Llafranc. Tamariu has a small number of restaurants and cafes aswell as a small supermaket open in the summer months. This is a quiet family resort however there are a number of local music festivals in the beach on a couple of weekends in the summer which can affect those staying in beachfront apartments. However we can let yuou know when these are if you wanted to avoid or take part.
Tamariu Village
Originally a small fishing village,Tamariu has not been over developed and has retained its identity and charm. There are some new villas and apartments on the edge of the village and like everywhere the village centre and beach gets busy in August, but you will find no high rise hotels or English pubs. There is parking close to the beach and you are only a very ashort drive form the town of Begur.
Tamariu Villas
There is an abundance of modern villas in Tamariu available for rent with many situated in Sanimar and the more popular urbanisation of Aigua Gelida. Sanimar is generally closer to Tamariu than Aigua Gelida however there are cross over points. There is an area of approx 1km back from Tamariu beach which is classed as Tamariu. North East of this area is called Aigua Gelida and meets with Aigublava and west is Sanimar.
Aigua Gelida is the larger of the two urbanisations and the most popular as it is higher up and so have better views. The area of Aigia Gelida is very popular and very expensive with roads such as Carrer Illa Blanca boasting famouse residents.
The urbanisation of Sanimar only hosts villas and apartments and so residents or visitors staying in this urbanisation would have to go to Tamariu for their nearest beach. Aiguagelida has it`s own bay servicing the many houses in the Cala Nostra development. This development is extremely open with a number 4 bedroom houses both terraced and semi-detached. This development is very popular with visitors to the Costa Brava and also Barcelonians as there are tennis courts and 3 communal swimming pools. This development is situated next to the bay of Aiguagelida
Tamariu and Surrounding Towns
The area between Palamos town and Cap de Begur is the most beautiful diving area in the Costa Brava. This is where you`ll see more differently coloured gorgonians than anywhere else along the coast, they cover every surface. Even at Cape de Creus and the Medes Islands, they don`t seem to flourish as they do here. They grow in the most heavenly red and yellow, in narrow gullies and cliffs - it`s a real eye-opener, and not just for underwater photographers.
Around the rocky reef you`ll meet a huge number of other residents of the Mediterranean animal world, such as large prawns, lobsters, conger eels and grouper. Night dives on the reefs will leave you with a truly unforgettable impression. There`s even a wreck nearby - the Boreas was cleaned in 1989 and was artificially sunk some way from the entrance to the harbour of Palamos. It`s about 30m long and lies upright at 30m. Best dive sites Tamariu Reef: this is the best-known dive site. The huge underwater rock formations here are like the fingers of an enormous hand, and the fissured gullies are smothered with colourful gorgonians. The rock walls start from 10m, reaching a depth of 30m, and there is a wealth of life. Small grottos and swim-throughs complete the picture. Ten dives here would only just give you an idea of how much there is to see here.
Tamariu is situated just south of Aiguablava and north of Llafranc. Although there are restaurants and cafe`s open throughout the year it does get very quite in the winter months with many of the homes empty during the week. This area is very popular with Barcelonians who visit all year round and so you can find the weekends getting busy throughout the year.
Tamariu is still just a village however you do have ample parking and a choice of cafe`s and restaurants along the promenade. There is also a super market open during the summer months. Tamariu has a good range of cafes and restaurants on the promenade and s mall supermarket open during the summer months. We have a large number of villas both modern and traditional in Tamariu and its 2 urbanisations available for rent and for sale. In addition to the villas we have for rent we also have apartments with and without swimming pools which are very popular.
