Sa Riera is a picturesque fishing village with some of the original houses still right by the sea. There are no large buildings or developments and most houses are individually designed and owned, arranged close to a large expanse of beach that rarely, if ever, becomes crowded.
This is a delightful cove protected by the Begur range of hills with low cliffs on each side running out to a point. Restaurants and bars, some leading onto the beach, are very much of the local variety, good simple food and drink and friendly service. These are generally open during the holiday season. There is also a small supermarket open seasonally.
Many people come to Sa Riera and never go anywhere else. It offers them all they need from a holiday and some of our rental properties offer a short direct walk to the sea with a choice of places to breakfast. Above the bay of Sa Riera, nestled in the hills, is the residential area of Es Valls. This area boasts spectacular sea views across the bay of Sa Riera
Sa Riera has recently been updated and now has a large decking area overlooking the beach which is often used for hosting music festivals. The roads and bars have also had a facelift. You have now got a small selection of smart bars offering food and drink.
Sa Riera is the closest beach to Begur town and is the first choice for many staying in and around the town. Sa Riera bay is particularly deep offering a large area of sand for sunbathers. In the summer months there is also a volley ball net and a beach bar situated in the far left of the beach.
The view from Sa Riera looks out to the Medes islands off the coast of Estartit. The Medes islands are very popular for diving as the water is very clear and you have the cluster of roacks (medes islands) of he coast..
Sa Riera is approximately 3km from the town of Begur however once at the beach you can walk round to the left which takes you to the Illa Roja bay and the long stretch of beach at Pals. One can also walk round to the right via a small path to find a small secluded bay just of the main beach. This walk continues round offering fantastic views but no more beaches.
