Cadaques Location
Cadaques is located on the Cap de Creus Peninsula, facing the sea at the head of a deep bay, surrounded by an extraordinary landscape of grey slate and olive groves, has a truly unique beauty and personality. Intellectuals and artists like Picasso or Salvador Dalï have given it international prestige, and thanks to them Cadaques has become an important meeting place for Western Avant-garde painters and artists.
Cadaques Villas
Cadaques has very strict guidelines when it comes to development in the area and all new houses must either be white or clad in the local stone giving a lovely 'picture perfect' image as you drive round the windy road into the town.
Haven On Earth have made a number of trips to Cadaques in search of high standard villas with good management however we have not been successful as of yet. We will however be returning shortly and hope to have some villas to offer. However Cadaques is 1 hours drive north of Begur and a great option for a day trip. If you want to stay in this area please do get in contact or alternatively choose one of our lovely vilals further south in Begur and make the trip up to Cadaques.
Cadaques Information
The architecture of the town, dominated by its church which houses an extraordinarily beautiful Baroque altarpiece, as well as the International Music Festival held annually, not to mention the museums and fascinating excursions through the outlying areas, are just a few elements that will make your visit a delightful one to this town where art galleries and popular traditions are upheld with strength and vitality.
The target of the houses with touch of azulete emphasizes on the grayish tone of the rock. Cadaques is the population of the Costa Brava that preserves its marine and bohemian air of long ago. The extravagances of Dalï contributed to give fame to this enclave of the Alt Emporda.
Cadaques had already been visited by numerous intellectuals before the arrival of Dalï, attracted by the Pitxot brothers, who had a house in the town. It is no wonder in Cadaques that you will find more art galleries than bars, amongst them the Perrot-Moore Museum, located in the old Miramar Hotel, with works of Durero, Caravaggio, Goya, Picasso, Matisse etc... The Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art includes works of Picasso, Dali and Pitxot. The house museum and the theatre museum of Salvador Dali can be visited in small groups.
You will soon become accustomed to the extremely bendy access road into Cadaques as this is the only road! The views however are breathtaking and well worth the slog roud the mountains. Be sure to visit Portlligat just roudn the corner where you can visit Darli`s house and enjoy the scenery that was once his inspiration..
